NIGHT TIME VIDEO CLIP

HI GUYS, I'VE PUT A VIDEO CLIP OF THE SITE (AND THE CORNER OF SOUTH DOWLING ST AND FLINDERS STREET) SHOT AT NIGHT IN THE COURSE FOLDER ON THE RESOURCES DRIVE.



IT'S A BIT "NOISEY" BUT FEEL FREE TO USE AS YOU LIKE. I'LL PROBABLY PUT A FEW MORE THERE IN THE COMMING WEEKS.

UT3 ADVICE

HI ALL, AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF EXPERIMENTATION THIS AFTERNOON I CAN OFFER A FEW WORDS OF ADVICE RE UT3:

1. THE TUTORIALS AT http://waylon-art.com/LearningUnreal/ ARE VERY GOOD. I CAN BACK UP HIS ADVICE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FIRST LEVEL TUTORIAL THAT THE SUBTRACTIVE MODE CAN LEAD TO SOME "WEIRD BUGS". ADDITIVE WAS MUCH BETTER.

2. THE MOST RECENT PATCH I COULD FIND IS HERE: http://www.gamershell.com/download_23348.shtml WHICH SEEMED TO HELP A BIT.

3. QUIT THE UNREAL EDITOR IF YOU WISH TO OPEN YOUR MAP IN UT3.

4. RUNNING UT3 IN A WINDOW STOPPED THE STRANGE RIPPLING EFFECT OVER THE TEXTURES; WHICH DIDN'T HAPPEN EVEN AT A HIGHER RESOLUTION WHEN IT WAS IN A WINDOW. YOU CAN ALSO MAXIMISE THE WINDOW SO IT TAKES UP THE FULL SCREEN...(LOOK IN THE VIDEO SETTINGS IN THE USER INTERFACE)

EDIT: I'VE JUST FOUND IF I FOLLOWED THE ADVICE FOR "PREPARING YOUR MAP FOR PUBLISHING AND DISTRIBUTION" HERE:
http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=590932 MY GRAPHICS PROBLEM WENT AWAY. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE THE SCREEN SHOT PART OF THE TUTORIAL SO IT WAS SOMETHING IN THE FIRST FEW STEPS. I'LL DO ANOTHER COUPLE OF TESTS TO CONFIRM.

EDIT 2: IT LOOKS LIKE MY SCREEN PROBLEM HAS GONE AWAY FOR GOOD, I'VE JUST TRIED MAKING A FRESH MAP TO CAUSE THE PROBLEM AND THEN FIX IT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY I CAN'T GET THE PROBLEM TO REAPPEAR IN THE FIRST PLACE. I'VE GONE BACK THOUGH ALL OF THE FIRST TESTS I HAD DONE AND THE PROBLEM DOESN'T REAPPEAR. VERY STRANGE. I'M INTERESTED TO HEAR IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM.

5. WHEN I SHIFTED AN EDGE (USING GEOMETRY EDITING) SO THAT IT SNAPPED TO ANOTHER EDGE, I WAS MAKING AN RAMP, THE SIDES OF THAT GEOMETRY DISAPPEARED. A WORK AROUND IS TO REDUCE THE GRID FOR SNAPPING AND PLACE THE EDGES CLOSE BUT NOT OVERLAPPING. A BETTER WORK AROUND IS TO BUILD YOUR GEOMETRY IN 3DSMAX.

6. A FORUM SO WE CAN CREATE A DATABASE OF ADVICE AND QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA TO ME. THERE ARE PLENTY OF UT3 FORUMS OUT THERE ALREADY BUT HAVING SOMETHING SPECIFIC MIGHT SAVE US ALL TIME IN THE LONG RUN.

SOME GREAT WORK ON FRIDAY

I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE MACHINIMA 'MASHUPS' THAT WE SAW ON FRIDAY. THERE WAS CLEAR EVIDENCE OF THINKING, SOME GREAT STYLE, AND AN EXCELLENT DISCUSSION/CRITIQUE OF THE WORK.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THE PRELIMINARY DRAFTS FOR EXP2 NEXT TUESDAY, BUT UNTIL THEN MAKE SURE YOU UPLOAD YOUR FINAL VIDEOS TO YOUTUBE AND LINK BACK TO YOUR BLOGS.
